The Grand Canyon is an exhibition that uses art, history and culture to help visitors understand the interaction of people with this important area over time. Three primary themes are explored throughout the exhibit: the Grand Canyon as an environment, the Canyon as a place of experience, and the Canyon as a place of expression. This exhibit will inspire and instill a sense of wonder in visitors and allow them to explore the interwoven natural and human histories of the Grand Canyon. – Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art
Some say when you look at the Eiteljorg Museum, along the canal in downtown Indianapolis, it’s like looking towards the Grand Canyon. With warm hues among its stone exterior, it is a refreshing and breathtaking piece of architecture along the Indianapolis landscape, reminiscent of the American West. Eiteljorg is bringing this beauty to the Midwest with their newest exhibition, The Grand Canyon, running March 26th through August 7th.
To welcome the exhibit, an opening party was held in Eagle Commons and Clowes Sculpture Court for supporters of the museum and the public. To pay homage to the Grand Canyon theme of the entire evening, a low country boil was held for guests. Eagle Society and Agave members enjoyed a private cocktail hour prior to the opening with exhibition curators James Nottage, Johanna Blume, Ashley Holland and Scott Shoemaker. Following, opening remarks were made by John Vanausdall, president and CEO of Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art.
