Wedding Food Trends of 2015
Aside from your sweet, heartfelt vows, your wedding food will likely be the second most-talked-about element of your wedding once the celebration is said and done. Part of throwing a great party is having an impressive spread of food and drinks that will delight your guests and keep them satisfied throughout the evening.
With so many couples embracing craft beer and innovative culinary trends, it’s no surprise that standard, plated wedding fare is being replaced with interactive food stations and creative hors d’oeuvres with an emphasis on fresh, local and ethnic ingredients.
Signature Drinks
Interest in craft spirits has spiked over the past few years alongside the farm-to-table movement and with this has come a renewed interest in the art of mixology. Signature drinks don’t need to be overly elaborate and can be created with simple ingredients.
Consider customizing your cocktail hour to offer a signature beverage or pass out a signature drink before your outdoor ceremony for guests to enjoy as you say ‘I do!’.
Comfort Food
When it comes to hors d’oeuvres and late-night snack stations, comfort food is rapidly becoming a wedding staple. Even couples that opt for more classic wedding dinners are making sure their hors d’oeuvres and late night snack stations include decedent indulgences. Featured above in our very popular BLT Tomato. It’s all the flavor of a BLT packed into the bite-sized flavor punch of a cherry tomato. The perfect comfort food hors d’oeuvre!
Consider making your favorite comfort food more wedding-appropriate by serving mini portions or presenting the signature dish in a bar with fancy toppings and sauces guests can use to customize their treats. Such as a mashed potato bar or quesadilla station.
Small Plate Stations
With everyone being a foodie these days, small plates are the perfect way to prepare and present a variety of options for guests to enjoy throughout your reception. Instead of offering one main dish, take multiple entrée options and turn them into smaller portions for guests to try.
Consider offering multiple small plates as a way for guests to enjoy a culinary adventure unlike a traditional event.
At our wedding tastings in both February and March we demonstrated a small plate station and had delicious options for guests to enjoy such as blackened jumbo tiger shrimp with three cheese grits, wilted greens and smoked bacon, beef short rib with red wine demi-glace served with gorgonzola polenta and baby stem-on carrots, and grilled salmon with raspberry barbeque glaze, pistachio curried couscous and sautéed swiss chard. Each of these small plates can be served as a plated entree or in a smaller portion. The beauty of small plates is the versatility!
